April, 2002: The Cogeneration plant, or "Co-Gen", on Silverbrook Mountain, picture taken looking southward from the Silverbrook Road. Cogeneration utilities reclaim and use the waste coal and culm left behind by the old inefficient mine works. It's burned to produce steam and electricity. April, 2002: Looking east at the site of the old Silverbrook mine works, earliest (1850s) coal deposits worked at the extreme northeastern part of Schuylkill County. This was the approximate location of the Candlemas Colliery.
May 2003: Close up view of the co-generation plant at Silverbrook. May 2003: Another picture of the Co-Gen looking east from directly behind the Van Hokelen flower and bulb commercial outlet on Rte. 309 South.
