CR-Beave rBrook and Coal Pickers

Top left: Office of the Beaver Brook Colliery, Beaver Brook, PA - It remained in place along Rte. 309 until some time in the 1960s, 1970s, long after the breaker had burned down. See also the Beaver Brook Breaker and the same side of the coal bank ca. the year 2000

The Others: Typical scenes of coal gathering during the great miners' strikes of the early 1900s and the Depression.

Breaker Boys: By-hand sorters and cleaners of the mixed coal and rock going down the chutes at the breakers. Although these pictures were probably taken in the Northern Anthracite Field, they are entirely representative of the whole Pennsylvania Anthracite Region.
