Beaver Meadows was the only existing village at this time. Hazleton consisted of a few homes and inns on the Mauch Chunk - Berwick Turnpike. Shown in red outline are the future Weatherly and Rockport, which were a railroad junction and a canal boat coal loading port, respectively. The Catawissa RR ran through the Quakake Valley east to west, from Black Creek Junction to Quakake Junction. It later became part of the Lehigh Valley Railroad.
