Jakiv could have been a Registered Cossack in the time of the Cossack State within the Polish-Lithuanian commonwealth. Or, this picture painted on the wall of the old (since disassembled) church in Kotan, Poland could just have made him look like one. Given a surname (Bavol=Polish for Oxen), recognition in the church, and perhaps his own land within a crown village, would have been a distinction at that time. Text in Church Slavonic only says that he was hit on the head and he died.
